ABOUT

Pohlschneider Nursery was started in 2000.  We started with an acre of field stock and 2 greenhouses.  We have now grown to 25 acres of field production, an acre of propagation area, half acre greenhouse, and three full-time employees.  We specialize in grafted ornamentals and broadleaf evergreens.  We grow 3-gallon maples and conifers used either for retail, bump up, or field liners.  6, 10, 15, and 20 gallon plants are grown in the field and either barerooted or machine dug with a small ball and potted with soil media on the bottom of the pot and around the sides.  We feel plants look best when grown in the field and want to finish in pots for ease of handling, shelf life, extended shipping season, and freight.  The nursery is located on the family' grass seed farm.  The nursery also grows grass seed and vegetable seed.

Sam Pohlschneider
Owner

Sam Pohlschneider was born and raised in St. Paul, Oregon. His parents own a grass seed farm and his family has been in the farming industry for three generations. Sam is the middle child of five children. He has a strong work ethic to get things done on the farm. He graduated from Oregon State University with a BS in Agriculture. After college, he worked at a local chemical company consulting other farmers as a crop advisor. He then went to work for a large nursery grower in the area and learned the ins and outs of the nursery business. In 2000, a year after his marriage, he started Pohlschneider Nursery.  Sam's wife, Laura, and three young sons help out on the nursery when they can.

Sam is a volunteer for the St. Paul Fire Department and member of the St. Paul Rodeo Association. When Sam can get away from the farm, he enjoys turkey, deer, and elk hunting, snowboarding, crabbing, fishing, and travelling to new places.  The family has enjoyed visiting a different national park for the past few years (Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Redwoods, Yosemite, and soon Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, and Canyonlands).
